Chengdu Taste Menu Redesign
Approach:
The goal of this project was to redesign my local Chinese food spot, Cheng- du Taste’s menu and logo. Originally inspired by the Kung Fu Panda movies, I wanted to create a very traditional scroll to open and have the menu inside.
Process:
The after re-formatting the menu, I wanted to include a border to make all the elements feel contained within the page. I also sketched up cherry blos- soms for the background as a reference to them originating in China during the Qin and Han dynasties. A challenge I constantly came across when doing this project was figuring out how to format all the categories so they flow in a cohesive order. I also struggled with the logo creation for quite a while. Originally, I wanted to do a red panda, but after not being able to make a logo that didn’t take away from the menu design. I decided to stick to simplicity and go with a bowl of noodles, in reference to Mr.Ping’s Noodle Shop also from Kung Fu Panda. The scroll itself was 3d printed then assembled and painted. I was going to have one on each side, but they were far too bulky so I just did one and wrapped it with twine to close it.
Results:
The final look incorporates traditional Chinese culture and modern day de- sign to create a fun scroll design. All elements of the menu are clearly visible and neatly organized in a traditional hierarchy.
