Approach:

The goal of this project was to create a surreal, dreamlike landscape of the Roman Colosseum standing where Madison Square Garden is. collaged of images found from various magazines, websites, and other pieces of media.

Process:

Early iterations of this project proved to be quite bland. I thought that replacing Madison Square Garden with the Roman Colosseum would be visually intresting enough, but after consideration, I decided I would need to increase the surreal aspect of the collage. Instead of having a basketball game inside the colosseum I was inspired by the Godzillla movies to have a giant monster attack the colosseum instead, to create something more visually intresting. I cut out pictures of tentacles from an octopus and created a sign to advertise the event as if it were a normal everyday thing. After doing that I included some smaller details such as putting the Empire State Building behind subject and put in a soldier walking down the street, and Batman standing on a rooftop to increase the ridiculousness of the image.

Results:

The final look is a surreal collage that looks like a picture captured from someone on the street but upon further glance gets more and more outlandish to create a collage that is visually intresting but not over the top.
